Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery has restarted in 2001, when the previous first and second departments of oral surgery merged. Now this department consists of two sections, the section of Oral Surgery and the section of Oral Oncology, and one center, the Oro-Facial Cosmetic Surgery Center.

The Section of Oral Surgery mainly deals with the education, research and clinic concerning with the bone-related diseases including jaw deformity, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disease and trauma in oral and maxillofacial region. The Section of Oral Oncology covers oral cancer and other soft tissue diseases including odontogenic tumor, oral mucus disease and salivary gland disease. Dent-alveolar surgery for wisdom tooth extraction, cystectomy, odontogenic infection is performed by both sections. The staff of each section, however, well cooperate beyond their specialty to treat the patients.

The Oro-Facial Cosmetic Surgery Center, which is a clinical division in the affiliated hospital, is composed of some dentists and a plastic surgeon, and treats the patients suffering from cosmetic troubles not only in their teeth and gum, but also in facial skin such as facial lines and marks.

Furthermore, this department is also in charge of the Sports Dentistry Unit in the hospital. We work on to the mouth-guard protection for the athletes from oral injuries during sports activities.
